How do you measure AI visibility?

By Tai Orser, Founder of Endoxic  ·  Updated October 4, 2026

Short answer

Track a fixed set of buyer questions across AI engines every month and record how often your brand is named, how accurately it is described and which sources are cited. Pair that with AI referral traffic in your analytics and Google Search Console's generative AI reports.

1. Prompt coverage

Choose the questions your buyers actually ask, such as "best [your category] for [your customer]". Each month, ask them in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude and Google AI Overviews and record the share of answers that name your brand. AI answers can change from one run to the next, so test each question more than once.

2. Accuracy of the description

Being named is not enough. Record whether the answer describes your products, prices and strengths correctly, and which competitors are named alongside you.

3. Citations

Note which web pages each answer cites. If your own pages are cited, AI trusts them as a source. If competitors' or third-party pages are cited instead, those are the sites to earn mentions on.

4. AI referral traffic and conversions

In your analytics, group visits that arrive from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, gemini.google.com, claude.ai and copilot.microsoft.com, and track what those visitors buy or submit. AI visitors often convert well: Adobe reported that in March 2026, AI traffic to US retail sites converted 42% better than other traffic.

5. Google Search Console

On June 3, 2026, Google launched generative AI performance reports in Search Console, starting with a subset of websites. They show impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode by page, country and device.
